John McCutcheon to headline at the 29th North Georgia Folk Festival

Friends – we are in for a treat this year when John McCutcheon returns to the North Georgia Folk Festival on Oct 5.  I mean, we have a great lineup this year, but I was super excited to be able to get John to come.  He is a master storyteller, songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist who many of us remember from his spellbinding performance at the festival a few years ago.  Check him out at http://www.folkmusic.com  (who better to play at the Folk Festival than someone whose web site is folkmusic.com?)

The 6th Annual Sweetheart Duets Hoot

Monday Feb. 11
@ The Melting Point
8-10pm admission is FREE
This month’s Hoot features an evening of twos as musical couples take the stage.  We’re setting up two musical chairs on stage. Nine different musical couples will be taking those chairs and singing and playing a short selection of songs. Several of the couples are in Athens area bands, but most do not perform just as a duo or in the same group!  I’ve told them they don’t have to play love songs, but what they choose to sing with be very telling. It’s a fast paced evening full of love & laughter!  The perfect show for an early Valentines date….and it’s FREE!  Susan Staley opens with her sweetheart &  hosts the evening.   susanstaley@gmail.com for more information or visit our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/athensfolk
Here’s the list along with a very incomplete listing of bands they are associated with:

Gretchen & Steve Pettis  ( G:Driftwood; S: Red Oak Southern String Band)
Beverly Smith & John Grimm  (B: Heartbeats Rhythm Quartet, Alice Gerrard; J: The Georgia Mudcats, The Georgia Potlickers)

Fran & Brian Burke (B: Normaltown Flyers)
